Walk-In Showers in Minneapolis, MN

We build walk-in showers and custom tiled showers in Minneapolis, across the Twin Cities and in Anoka County, including tub-to-shower conversions and low-threshold entries. Every shower starts with a waterproofing system behind the tile and a flood-tested pan, because that hidden layer decides how long the shower lasts.

Walk-in showers we build: custom tile showers and tub-to-shower conversions

A walk-in shower looks simple: tile, a drain and a glass panel. The work that makes it last is behind the tile. The pan has to slope to the drain, the walls and floor need a continuous waterproofing layer, and the drain and valve have to land in the right place. We build those parts carefully and then finish the shower the way you want it.

Waterproofing and tile. A waterproofing system on walls, pans, niches and benches, flood tested before tile. Ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tile on shower walls and floors.

Glass and plumbing. We coordinate frameless or framed shower glass, measured after tile is set. Licensed plumbers move drains and install new valves and trim.

Accessibility. Low-threshold entries, built-in benches, handheld showerheads and solid blocking for grab bars.

Walk-in showers, step by step: how a shower remodel runs

1

Walkthrough

We look at the existing tub or shower, check for soft floors or signs of past leaks, and see what is accessible from below.
2

Design and selections

We set the shower size, entry, niche and bench locations, and you choose tile, fixtures and glass style.
3

Estimate and permits

You get a detailed estimate. Plumbing changes go through a permit, which we coordinate.
4

Demolition

We protect the floors and hallway, then remove the tub or shower, tile and wallboard down to the framing and subfloor.
5

Framing and plumbing

Subfloor repairs, framing for the curb or recessed floor, niche and bench framing, grab-bar blocking, then drain and valve rough-in with its inspection.
6

Waterproofing

Shower pan, backer board and waterproofing system, then a flood test of the pan.
7

Tile

Floor and wall tile, grout and sealing where the material needs it.
8

Fixtures and glass

Valve trim and showerhead, then the glass is measured and installed once the tile is done.
9

Final walkthrough

We test the shower with you, check the drain and the glass seals, and finish the punch list.

Walk-in showers in Minnesota homes: what to plan for

Ventilation and winter moisture

A walk-in shower puts a lot of steam into the room. In a Minnesota winter, moisture that is not exhausted condenses on cold windows and exterior walls. A properly sized fan ducted to the outside is part of the plan, and we check whether an older fan vents into the attic instead.

Showers on exterior walls

Valves and supply lines in an outside wall can freeze. When we open the wall we check the insulation, and where the layout allows we keep the valve on an interior wall.

Older home drains

Many older Twin Cities homes have cast iron or galvanized drain lines under the tub. Moving the drain for a walk-in shower can mean replacing a section of that pipe, which we plan for once we see it.

Floor framing

Older bathrooms sometimes have undersized or notched joists from past plumbing work. A tile shower is heavy, and a curbless entry needs the floor recessed, so we check the framing before the design is final.

Living through it

If it is your only shower, plan ahead for where you will bathe during the project. The waterproofing and tile steps need time to cure, and we schedule around them.

Walk-in showers and tub-to-shower conversions: common questions

Can you convert my bathtub to a walk-in shower?

Yes. A tub-to-shower conversion usually fits in the same footprint as the old tub. The drain often has to move toward the center or the end of the new pan, and the valve may move too, so we check the framing and plumbing under the tub before the design is final.

Can you convert a shower back to a tub?

Yes. Some homeowners want a tub back for small children or resale. We confirm the space, the floor framing and the drain location, then frame, plumb and finish the tub surround.

Can I have a curbless shower?

Often, yes. A curbless or low-threshold entry needs the shower floor recessed so water slopes to the drain instead of onto the bathroom floor. That can mean adjusting the floor framing, so we look at the joists and what is underneath before promising a zero-step entry.

What does shower waterproofing involve?

Tile and grout are not waterproof on their own. Behind the tile we install a waterproofing system on the walls, the pan, the niches and the bench, and we flood test the pan before tile goes on.

Can you add grab bars now or later?

We add solid blocking in the walls while they are open, even if you do not want grab bars yet. Then bars can be mounted securely later without opening the tile.
