Cabinets. Custom and replacement cabinets, cabinet installation, and cabinet refinishing when the boxes are worth keeping. We set cabinets level and plumb so doors line up and countertops sit flat.

Countertops. Quartz, granite and other stone countertops, including fabrication and installation. We also handle countertop removal and replacement on its own when the cabinets stay.

Surfaces and finish work. Tile backsplashes, flooring, drywall, painting, and finish carpentry such as crown molding, filler panels and trim.

Mechanical coordination. Sink and plumbing changes, plus electrical and lighting work such as under-cabinet lights, new circuits for appliances and recessed lighting.

Damage reconstruction. Water- and fire-damage kitchen reconstruction, from tear-out to finished kitchen.

How a kitchen remodeling project runs

Walkthrough

We measure the kitchen, look at how you cook and store things, and check the floor, walls and existing plumbing and electrical.

Design and selections

We settle the layout and you choose cabinets, countertops, backsplash tile, flooring, fixtures and appliances. We need appliance specs early because they set the cabinet openings.

Estimate and ordering

You get a detailed estimate. Once approved, we order cabinets and other long-lead items.

Permits

Plumbing and electrical changes usually need permits. We coordinate those with our subcontractors.

Demolition

We protect the rest of the house, then remove cabinets, tops and flooring as the scope calls for.

Rough-ins

Wall and layout changes, then plumbing, electrical and any vent ductwork, followed by inspections.

Drywall and flooring

Wall repairs or new drywall, then flooring where it runs under the cabinets.

Cabinets and countertops

Cabinets go in, the countertop fabricator templates the tops, and the tops are installed when they are ready.

Backsplash and finishes

Tile backsplash, trim, paint, fixtures and appliance hookups.

Final walkthrough

Final inspections, then we walk the kitchen with you and finish the punch list.

Kitchen remodeling in Minnesota: what to plan for

Cabinet lead times

Semi-custom and custom cabinets are built to order and can take several weeks. We hold off on demolition until the cabinet delivery date is firm, so you are not without a kitchen longer than needed.

Range hood venting

A hood that vents outdoors needs a proper wall or roof cap and a damper that closes tight in winter. Larger hoods can also require makeup air under Minnesota's mechanical code.

Exterior walls

If a sink or cabinets sit on an outside wall, we check the insulation when the wall is open. Cold exterior walls can freeze supply lines in a January cold snap.

Older homes

Kitchens in older Twin Cities homes may have uneven floors, plaster walls or outdated wiring. We plan for leveling and electrical upgrades during the walkthrough.

Living through it

Expect dust control at the doorways and some noise during demolition and tile cutting. Set up a temporary kitchen before demolition. A spare room with the refrigerator, a microwave and a folding table makes the weeks much easier.

Kitchen remodeling questions

Can I keep my cabinets and just replace the countertops?

Often, yes. If the cabinet boxes are solid and level, we can remove the old tops and install new stone countertops. Refinishing the cabinet doors and frames at the same time is a common way to update the kitchen without a full tear-out.

Can you move my sink or add an island with a sink?

Yes. Moving a sink means new drain and vent lines, and an island sink needs its own venting approach. We coordinate licensed plumbers for that work and plan the routing before the layout is final.

Will my kitchen be out of service the whole time?

During a full remodel, yes, for a stretch. We help you set up a temporary kitchen elsewhere in the house, often with the refrigerator and a microwave, and we schedule the work so the kitchen is down for as little time as the scope allows.

Why do stone countertops get measured after the cabinets go in?

The fabricator templates the tops from the installed cabinets so the cuts match the real walls and corners, which are rarely perfectly square. Sink and cooktop cutouts are made from that template too. Installing the tops comes after templating and fabrication.

Can you rebuild a kitchen after a fire or water leak?

Yes. We do water- and fire-damage kitchen reconstruction, from removing damaged materials and drying or replacing framing to new cabinets, countertops and finishes.
